As a massage therapist and Alexander Technique teacher, I see myself as a facilitator of healing, offering both hands-on work and body learning with my presence, compassion, experience, wisdom, and other resources (like referrals) to my clients. I am a licensed massage therapist in both Maryland and the District of Columbia, and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (www.amtamassage.org) and Alexander Technique International (www.ati-net.org).
In massage, I use Swedish, Deep Tissue, Connective Tissue, Reiki, and Esalen massage, as well as Craniosacral therapy, and aromatherapy to encourage relaxation, relieve stress, and also to treat both acute and chronic injuries. I graduated from the Potomac Massage Training Institute in 1999, and am Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB).
As an Alexander Technique teacher, I offer one-on-one private lessons to teach principles of mind-body coordination – specifically how to think mindfully and move naturally, creating more ease and less effort in all areas of one’s life. I incorporate these principles into my work as a massage therapist, and, as well, my work as a massage therapist informs my work as an Alexander teacher on a number of levels. I am a 2010 graduate of the Chesapeake Bay Alexander Technique Teacher Training program in Greensboro, NC (www.chesapeakealexander.com).
I have a BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Oberlin College, and worked for over 10 years in the environmental field. I see my work as a massage therapist and Alexander Technique teacher as a continuation of my passion for environmental issues – still working toward healing the planet, but now person-by-person. I am a student of mindfulness meditation, yoga, and various types of dance, as well as an avid cyclist, hiker, ice skater, and swimmer.
